On January 30 2016 I had the extreme pleasure of experiencing the exhilarating city of New Orleans Louisiana for the first time. It was a happy coincidence that our cruise was departing the week of Mardi Gras so we were able to dip our toes into the carnival world of music, drinking, dancing and celebrating that happens primarily in the streets of the French Market. Our Hotel, The Frenchman, was built in 1804 and aside from the challenge of parking in a tiny secure area it was the most delightful authentic old world experience.
We ate and drank glorious delights and participated in the family friendly parade that started right outside our hotel.
Our next adventure was a cruise to Roaten, Honduras, Belize and Cozumel Mexico. We basked in the sunshine, ate glorious food, and drifted on turquoise waters sipping local beers. At night a highlight was the night club that was a meeting place for what would become some chummy friends to while away some hours in good old fashioned dancing and working off those extravagant meals.
The entertainment on the Carnival cruise ship was rich with southern humor. We went to a show each night sitting in the front row finding guilty pleasure in some unexpected viewpoints.
I am home now, still daydreaming about those linen tables with bubbly waiters eager to serve my every need. I miss the sunshine and I miss those tall drinks that left me giggling for hours.
I’m counting the days until I can embark on another adventure.
